A second Provigo Le Marché store has opened on the West Island of Montreal.
The newest edition of the concept, inspired by large fresh-produce markets, opened last Thursday in Pierrefonds. The renovation of the Loblaw store resulted in an expansion in several sections and the creation of 60 new jobs.

"The Provigo Le Marché concept is born of our desire to offer Quebecers a supermarket that focuses on new arrivals, seasonal products and Quebec foods, coupled with an unequalled set of in-store tools and services that help consumers make informed choices," said Pierre Dandoy, senior vice-president of operations for the Provigo, Provigo Le Marché and Loblaws banners in Québec.
The opening occurred at the tail-end of what the Loblaw Group has called the “second rollout” of the Provigo Le Marché concept. A Provigo Le Marché opened in Aymler late in May, with a second opening in Jean-Talon only a few days later. The Pierrefonds store is the 11th Provigo Le Marché store to open in Quebec.

In a previous interview ith Canadian Grocer, Dandoy said not all Loblaw stores in Quebec will become Provigo Le Marchés. “Loblaw is a strong brand in Quebec,” he said. “We always have to evaluate the retail business but Loblaw for the moment is remaining in Quebec.”
As part of the renovation of the 71,800-sq.-ft. store, the fresh products section was expanded by more than 5,500 sq. ft. The Pierrefonds store also inaugurates a new 5,300-sq.-ft. Joe Fresh clothing boutique.
Features also include an expanded range of products from Quebec growers and producers, a daily shipment of seafood products from sustainable fisheries, a wall of 400 cheeses – 300 of which are from Quebec – and a cooking school.
