Sobeys has just opened its fourth Chalo FreshCo grocery store in the north-west corner of the Greater Toronto Area, in the heart of one of Canada’s largest South-Asian populations.
The stores—three of which are now in Brampton with the fourth in neighbouring Mississauga—offer a wider range of South Asian fresh and grocery products including halal and non-halal meat, fresh seafood, as well as an in-store pharmacy.
“At Chalo FreshCo, we work hard to help our customers make every dollar count and offer a great assortment of South Asian products,” said Mike Venton, FreshCo general manager, in a press release.
Sobeys opened its first Chalo in 2015 after research showed many South Asian consumers felt they had to visit several stores a week to do their full shop. Chalo was created to give those shoppers everything they need in one stop, and under one roof.
Chalo FreshCo was marking the opening throughout the weekend with deals, Bollywood dance performers and a halal food truck to offer free samples.
