Discount retailer Giant Tiger is preparing to open eight new stores by June 6.
Of the new stores, six will open in small Ontario cities: Trenton, Alliston, Belleville, Sarnia, Timmons and Prescott.
One store will also open in Yarmouth, N.S. and another in Laval Que.
The company, based in Ottawa, will also renovate existing stores to mesh with the new store design it unveiled in 2013.
Giant Tiger stores sell a mixture of apparel, grocery, seasonal and lifestyle products. Food items include name-brand products and some under the company’s own private-label line, called Giant Value.
The stores range in size from 9,000 to 30,000 sq. ft.
The first Giant Tiger opened in Ottawa's Byword Market in 1961 and today the company has more than 200 locations in eight provinces.
