Quebec-based campaign gets consumers to show veggies some love

The "I love 5 to 10 servings a day" campaign is welcoming two new partners to the dinner table.

The Syndicat des producteurs d'oignons du Quebec and the Federation quebecoise des producterus de fruits et legumes de transformation have signed on to help the campaign raise consumer awareness about the importance of incorporating fruits and vegetables as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Launched in 2004 by the Quebec Produce Marketing Association, the association is entirely funded by the produce industry and its partners. As a result of its consumer campaigns, partners be extension see an increase in sales.

While the syndicate des producteurs d'oigons aims to study and help advance Quebec onion growers, the federation quebecoise des producteurs de fruits et legumes is more involved in the social and economic interest of its members.

"We want to help people find out more about yellow and red onions, said Sophie Perreault, QPMA executive director. "Among other things we've already published a food guide, Coup de coeur pour les oignons du Quebec.

She added new campaigns, with the help of the federation quebecoise des producteurs, would encourage consumers to use frozen, preserved or canned vegetables as practical solutions to get enough veggies at meal times.
