Tracie Bick
Canada Team Lead, Net Revenue Management
Unilever Canada
How did you get into the grocery/CPG business?
I did a number of internships at university, one of which was in CPG. I immediately loved the focus on understanding consumer behaviour and innovating and adapting products to meet their wants and needs. It was the perfect intersection of business and psychology, which were my two areas of study. I have been in CPG ever since.
What do you like most about your job?
As the Canada lead for Unilever’s net revenue management team, I love that I get to work with a multitude of teams across the business that span account, brand and strategy. I can influence so many aspects of our business and have exposure to so many smart and inspiring colleagues.
What’s the best career advice you’ve received?
Earlier in my career, I thought my work would speak for itself. I was given great advice that in large, fast-moving organizations we need to actively make others aware when we, or our teams, have a significant achievement. As women, where research tells us that we aren’t as vocal sharing our successes, we need to find our voice and actively speak about our work with both pride and humility.
What do you think is your best quality?
Colleagues and customers say I bring pragmatism, perspective and a bit of humour to projects and teams. I strive to do great work, but infuse a little fun into everything I do.
What has been a career highlight or one of your greatest career achievements so far?
A career highlight was winning a peer-voted award for courageous leadership. The award was created in honour of a long-time leader in the business who was known for speaking up and asking respectful but tough questions of leadership when most others wouldn’t. I was truly flattered to have my colleagues nominate and choose me as exemplifying these behaviours, because I admired that leader for those same qualities!
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
I am a mom to three young kids, so I have a busy household. Outside of work I like to be active with our family outdoors. In the winter we love skating on our backyard rink and skiing, and in the summer we love swimming and boating at a family cottage.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Congratulations to the other powerhouse women recognized with this award. I am honoured and humbled to be amongst my esteemed colleagues in the industry.
