2026 Star Women in Grocery Award Winner Candice Schalit (Q&A)
Candice Schalit
Key Account Manager
Ferrero Canada
How did you get your start in the CPG business?
I was naturally drawn to consumer-packaged goods and have always been passionate about the industry. Studying business in college helped strengthen my interest in understanding consumer behaviour, brand strategy and the fast-paced retail environment. Early on, I recognized how dynamic the grocery and CPG space is, and I was excited by the opportunity to work in an industry that directly impacts consumers every day.
Tell us about a few career highlights that stand out.
A few career highlights that stand out to me include being recognized at Ferrero Canada with three different leadership awards, which was incredibly meaningful and reflected the strong teams and collaborations I have been fortunate to be part of. I have also been inspired by witnessing Ferrero’s commitment to sustainability and seeing first-hand the positive impact of the company’s initiatives and long-term vision. Another major highlight has been being part of several historic product launches, helping bring exciting innovations to market and seeing the strong connection they created with consumers and retail partners.
What inspires or motivates you in your role?
The opportunity to make a meaningful impact—whether that is supporting my team, building strong partnerships or helping drive business growth. I am energized by the fast-paced nature of the grocery and CPG industry, where there is always something new to learn and opportunities to innovate. I am also motivated by working alongside passionate people and being part of an industry that plays an important role in consumers’ everyday lives.
What’s a career challenge that taught you the most?
One of the biggest career lessons I have learned is the importance of being honest and transparent, especially during challenging situations. Early in my career, I realized that clear communication and authenticity build trust—both within teams and with partners. Difficult moments taught me that people value honesty, even when conversations are tough, and that being open and accountable leads to stronger relationships, better collaboration and more effective problem-solving in the long run.
How would you describe your leadership style?
Collaborative, honest and people-focused. I believe in leading with transparency, building strong relationships and creating an environment where people feel supported and empowered to contribute their ideas. I value open communication and accountability, while also encouraging growth and development within the team. My goal is to lead by example and foster a positive culture where everyone can succeed together.
Outside of work, what are you passionate about?
I am a proud wife and mom of three girls, and a lot of my time outside of work is spent supporting and coaching them in both field hockey and soccer. I also love staying active—I am a long-distance runner and enjoy spending time outdoors, especially camping and being surrounded by nature. Recently, I was incredibly honoured to be selected to represent Canada in field hockey on the Masters Team at the World Cup in Rotterdam, The Netherlands in July 2026, which is an exciting milestone for me.
