Store Manager, Super C Valleyfield

How did you get your start in the grocery business?

I grew up in the grocery business. My parents bought a store in the 1970s, and from a very young age I was immersed in that environment. Over the years, I worked in many roles, from cashier to accounting clerk to department manager, which gave me a deep understanding of store operations. Those early experiences shaped my passion for the industry and laid the foundation for the 50-year career I’m proud of today.

What excites you about the grocery business?

What motivates me every day is the human side of the business, the connection with customers and the teamwork on the store floor. I love coaching my employees, helping them grow and creating an environment where people feel supported and confident. The grocery world is dynamic, and no two days are alike, which keeps me energized and engaged.

Proudest career moment?

When my family acquired a second store in 2003. I had to manage a major renovation with very little experience at the time; a challenge that pushed me to grow quickly as a leader. Looking back, I’m extremely proud of the results we achieved and of how that experience strengthened my confidence and shaped the leader I am today.

What is your superpower?

One of my greatest strengths is being a role model for my team. My superpower is my ability to inspire people, to help them see their potential, develop their skills and build meaningful careers in our industry. Whether I’m coaching new managers or supporting colleagues across the network, developing talent is truly at the heart of my leadership.

What is a career challenge you've faced?

A major challenge early in my career was finding my place in an environment that was, at the time, predominantly male. I learned to assert myself, demonstrate my skills and earn the trust of others. That journey made me a stronger, more confident leader and today, it’s one of the qualities that defines my management style.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

I love spending time with my family, travelling, and staying active. Golf and running are two of my favourite ways to recharge and keep a healthy balance outside of work.
