2026 Star Women in Grocery Award Winner Virginie Perreault (Q&A)
Virginie Perreault
Merchandising Director, Super C
Metro Inc.
How did you get your start in the grocery business?
While I was in university, I completed a summer internship at Metro as a merchandising assistant. I enjoyed the experience, which led me to apply for a permanent position as a merchandising co-ordinator for the Super C banner. From there, I continued to grow within the organization, serving as an assistant category manager, a category manager and, since September, merchandising director. This past May marked my 10-year anniversary at Metro.
What do you like most about your job?
Every day is different. It’s a dynamic and constantly evolving environment where you can quickly see the impact of the decisions and initiatives you put in place. I work in a field where the products we sell are part of everyday life, making them easy to relate to. As a result, it’s also a highly competitive environment where staying on top of trends is essential. It’s exciting to discover and try the innovations that continue to be introduced.
What keeps you passionate about your work?
Working for a discount banner, what truly fuels my passion is the challenge of negotiating the best possible value for consumers, ensuring they can access quality products at the most competitive prices. I’m also motivated by bringing new and relevant products to consumers that enhance their everyday experience.
Your proudest career moment?
One of my proudest moments was being promoted to merchandising director for Super C this past September. It was an important step in my career and the realization of a goal I had set for myself. I truly enjoy what I do, which makes this achievement especially meaningful as I continue to grow in my role. I’m also fortunate to be supported by a strong team and great colleagues who make the experience even more enjoyable.
What excites you about the grocery business?
What excites me most about the food industry is seeing new products and trends emerge. Social media plays a huge role in accelerating this, constantly exposing consumers to new products and driving rapid adoption. I also really enjoy being able to discover and try these products early and playing a role in deciding whether or not to introduce them to consumers.
