Aldi targets affluent shoppers as it expands

German discounter Aldi is looking at opening stores in upscale areas as it continues expansion in the U.S.

The typical 15,000-sq.-ft. stores will carry mainly private label goods, up to 50% less than brand name goods.

However Aldi is now stocking more brand name products, such as Charmin tissue, and Febreeze air fresheners, along side more fresh produce and meat in its New Jersey outlets.
