Burnbrae Farms 2022 sustainability report

Recently, Burnbrae Farms Limited released its 2022 Sustainability Report.  The report highlights progress against the company’s five pillars of sustainability, including: Environment, Animal Care, Health and Wellbeing, Safe Nourishing Food and Community Spirit.

This is Burnbrae’s second public-facing report which features several commitments that will help the business continue to be sustainable for many years to come, including a goal to be net zero emissions by 2050.

Burnbrae Farms is a sixth-generation Canadian family business with a purpose of providing “Eggs for Life”.  It has been farming sustainably in Canada for over 130 years and takes great pride in being able to provide safe, affordable, nutritious, high-quality eggs and egg products to all Canadians.

Another key highlight in 2022 was becoming certified by Women Business Enterprises Canada (WBE) as Majority Female Owned. This certification provides further opportunities, and most importantly means that Burnbrae Farms is part of challenging the status quo and helping to change the future of the business landscape in Canada.

Other highlights from 2022 include:

  • Working with 400+ Canadian egg farming families
  • Donations of more than 800,000 eggs to 50 local charities
  • $300,000 in monetary donations to organizations and registered charities across the country and abroad
  • 91% waste diverted from landfill
  • 100% Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), certified for all  facilities
  • On track to meet the national commitment of transitioning all hen housing to alternative systems by 2036

In 2022, the company continued to partner with many charitable organizations including Swim Drink Fish, Nature Canada, We Care, Parkinson Canada, World Vision, Easter Seals and the Grocery Foundation, just to name a few.

“At Burnbrae Farms, sustainability is at the heart of what we do, and we are always working to adapt our processes across all aspects of our business to be more sustainable”, says Margaret Hudson, President and CEO.  “While much work remains, we are determined to continue to advance on our commitments and are proud to share our progress over the past year”.
