Calgary Co-op breaks ground on new Strathmore location

Strathmore Centre will include food store, liquor store and a second gas bar

The Calgary Co-operative Association has broken ground on a new location in Strathmore.

Construction of the Co-op’s 35,000-sq-ft store will begin immediately, with an anticipated opening of summer 2015. The new store will replace the current Strathmore location, offering more parking and an expanded offering of products.

“We’ll have a new location, but will continue to provide the same great customer service and high quality products,” said Ken Woo, Calgary Co-op’s CEO.

The new Strathmore Centre will not only include a revamped Co-op food store. A co-op wines, spirits and beer store and a second Co-op gas bar location will all be constructed simultaneously, giving Strathmore residents a place for one-stop shopping.

“We’ve simply outgrown our current location and will use this opportunity to develop a convenient shopping destination,” said Woo.

Calgary Co-op is one of the largest retail co-operatives in North America, with over 440,000 members and 3,500 employees.
