Calgary Co-op opened its newest store on Thursday (March 27).

The co-op in Calgary's Oakridge neighbourhood spans 53,000 square feet.

That includes a 48,000 square-foot food store and an additional 5,000 square feet of retail space for new tenants, which Calgary Co-op said will be announced later this year.

“This new food store is a significant milestone in Calgary Co-op’s ongoing commitment to providing our members with a convenient and innovative shopping experience. This grand opening is just the beginning, marking the completion of Phase 2 in what will be a transformative redevelopment in Oakridge,” said Damon Tanzola, SVP, real estate and health and wellness for Calgary Co-op, in a press release.

Located at 2580 Southland Dr SW, Calgary Co-op’s Oakridge store features a pharmacy walk-in clinic, an on-site florist offering custom arrangements, an oyster bar, a variety of meal solutions and a community room.

An expanded Natural Choice area offers functional foods, supplements, vitamins and more, as well as an in-store Natural Choice advisor.

The new store features CO2 based refrigeration units and energy efficient LED lighting throughout.

It also offers a drive through pick up lane for online shopping.

Future plans to the area include commercial, office, residential and community spaces, with the entire development projected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Calgary Co-op currently operates its Wine, Spirits and Beer, Gas Bar and Cannabis on-site, as well as manages the leasing of existing tenants.
