Canada Safeway kicks off its prostate cancer campaign
Canada Safeway has launched its month-long prostate cancer fundraising and awareness campaign for the most common cancer in Canadian men.
“Safeway is committed to funding research that will lead to a cure for prostate cancer," said Chuck Mulvenna, president and COO for Canada Safeway. "Our unique ability to reach millions of shoppers each week not only allows us the opportunity to raise money for research, but to also share the message about the importance of early detection and treatment."
This month Canada Safeway customers at its 215 western Canadian stores can make a donation at the checkout. With a $2 donation, customers receive a coupon for 10% off their next purchase of Safeway brand products.
Last year $1.4 million was raised in western Canada through a variety of in-store fundraising events, the Safeway Father's Day Walk/Run and customer donations.
All of the funds raised during the campaign will help Prostate Cancer Canada support critical research taking place at the Vancouver Prostate Cancer Centre and throughout western Canada.
The Safeway Father's Day Walk/Run for Prostate Cancer will take place in 13 communities across Canada on June 19. Last year these community-based events raised in more than $1 million and welcomed 8,000 participants.
Safeway is one of the largest corporate supporters of cancer research and outreach, having raised more than $65.4 million across Northern America in the past decade for prostate cancer research and support programs for men and their families.
