Cape Breton residents challenged to eat local
Food advocates encourage residents to make half of every meal local
Residents of Cape Breton are looking for meals closer to home.
A group of food advocates and organizes have joined forces to form the 50% Local Food Club – a team looking to increase the consumption and purchasing of local foods in Nova Scotia for the month of September.
The club says participants can decide on their own ways to eat local, whether it be spending 50% of your food budget on local foods, using local foods in 50% of your weekly meals, or trying to make 50% of every meal local.
To facilitate the challenge, the group's website provides handy recipes, events, and a list of retailers where shoppers can by local items.
