Whole Foods Market opened its much-anticipated location in Toronto’s Leaside neighbourhood on April 26.

The 54,000-sq. ft. store is the supermarket chain's sixth location in the Greater Toronto Area and features "a variety of delicious prepared foods venues as well as classic Whole Foods Market favourites for shoppers to choose from," according to a press release announcing details around the store opening.

The Leaside location features the traditional departments shoppers have come to expect from Whole Foods with the addition of taco, burger and sandwich stations, an expanded offering for vegetarians and vegans and more.

“Whole Foods Market Leaside will be a one-stop-shop for kitchen creators, featuring the best tasting natural and organic grocery staples as well as that hard-to-find ingredient,” said Cristina Dos Santos, store team leader, Whole Foods Market Leaside, in a release.

“For shoppers on-the-go, we’ll have a variety of delicious meals from our chef-driven prepared food options such as seasonal salads, custom sandwiches, traditional and modern tacos and Neapolitan-style pizza, all made without artificial colours, preservatives and sweeteners,” she added.

Canada’s first Whole Foods location opened in Toronto in 2002 and with this newest location, the company has 13 stores—six in British Columbia and seven in Ontario.
