Alberta-based Community Natural Foods is calling on local vendors to pitch their best organic, sustainable products as it prepares to open its new location in Edmonton’s Old Strathcona neighbourhood.

The health food grocer, owned by Calgary Co-op, currently has more than 1000 Alberta-made products listed in its stores.

Vendors have until April 11 to submit. Brands that make it through the pre-screen will be invited to a live local product presentation on April 19 in Edmonton.

Community Natural Foods’ category managers vet products for toxicity, quality (grade, processing and source) and impact on human, animal and environmental welfare.

Its CNF Verified Ingredients list is verified by a third party to maintain the latest ingredient standards in Alberta.

Community Natural Foods eliminates artificial flavours and colours; toxic substances; hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils; packaged products without ingredients listed on their labels; products from companies that conduct animal testing; environmentally destructive chemicals; crops harvested using environmentally destructive methods; uncertified seafood; and products sourced using unfair trade practices, among others.
