Costco Wholesale opened a new warehouse in Southwest Calgary on Friday. It's the retailer's seventh location in Calgary and it's first to be built on First Nation land.
Located on the Tsuut’ina reserve, the new warehouse is 151,000 square feet and has signage in both English and the Sarcee tongue. The store's interior and exterior has been designed to emulate Tsuut’ina land with rolling hills and greenery, according to a press release.
The newest warehouse has a self-checkout area, an on-site bakery, fresh meat, produce area, rotisserie chicken section, an optical centre--including an on-site independent optometrist--a hearing aid centre, photo centre, tire centre, large food court and liquor pod.
It also has 847 parking spots, 18 gas pumps, and sells more than 4,000 products. Costco operates 101 warehouses in Canada and employs more than 40,000.
