DavidsTea expands product offering at select Loblaw stores

After closing all but 18 stores, the tea retailer is focusing its efforts on getting product on grocery store shelves

DavidsTea is continuing its reinvention from specialty tea retailer to wholesale brand available across major grocery banners by expanding its product offering at Loblaw Companies Limited.

A wider range of DavidsTea products are now being sold at Real Canadian Superstore and Atlantic Superstore locations following a new deal announced last week. Now, more than 1,250 Loblaw-owned grocery banners and pharmacy stores across Canada carry DavidsTea products.

DavidsTea was once widely regarded as a Canadian retail success story with more than 200 stores across the country serving a wide selection of loose-leaf teas. The company was hit hard by the pandemic however, closing all but 18 locations and shifting its focus to building its online presence and a placing greater emphasis on putting its products on grocery stores shelves. That process began before the COVID crisis through a 2018 deal with Loblaw

“We want to be local and accessible to our tea community, and Loblaw has been a fantastic partner in this journey since 2018,” said Frank Zitella, president and chief financial and operating officer at DavidsTea. “We are thrilled to be growing our presence in their recognized and trusted banners Canada-wide in support of our omnichannel strategy.”

The new products added to the existing assortment of DavidsTea items at Loblaw include matcha single-serves along with a number of popular new flavours of loose-leaf tea: Blood Orange Boost, Headache Halo, Valerian Nights, Vanilla Cappuccino, and Frozen Raspberry.
