At the Fancy Food Show, freekeh and Peru
Visitors to the popular San Francisco show discovered the latest product trends
Food trends come and go but on their way up they inevitably make their way through the Fancy Food Show.
The winter show in San Francisco ended this week. Around 1,300 exhibitors from 14 countries were on hand to show off their latest and greatest products.
So what trends stood out? Exotic grains, definitely.
Thanks to heightened consumer interest in grains like quinoa, other grains are starting to hit the market. At the Fancy Food Show, freekeh, a roasted green wheat (pictured above), was highlighted, as were grains such as farro.
Other interesting trends included fancy ramen noodles made of rice, such as those made by Lotus Foods of California, plus a surging interest in Peruvian foods.
