Farm Boy announces Burlington, Ont. location

Farm Boy's Ontario expansion continues with plans to open a Burlington, Ont. location later this year.

Set to open at 3061 Walkers Line just north of Dundas Street, the 25,483-sq.-ft. Farm Boy store will create 120 new jobs for the community.

"After opening locations in Toronto, Oakville and Hamilton, we’ve received many requests from residents of Burlington asking us to bring Farm Boy to their city," said Farm Boy co-CEO Jeff York in a press release announcing the new location.

"We’re thrilled to share the news today with the Burlington community and we’re excited for the opportunity to earn their lasting business," he added.

Farm Boy was in expansion mode before it was purchased by Sobeys' parent Empire last September and had its sights set on Hamilton, Oakville, Burlington, Mississauga, Oshawa and Richmond Hill, as well as north into Newmarket, Aurora and Barrie.

When details of the acquisition were announced, York told Canadian Grocer that Empire would help fuel Farm Boy's growth and could provide access to better locations, a significant advantage in the Greater Toronto Area and, specifically, the downtown core. With the big three–Loblaw, Sobeys and Metro–getting first chance at premium sites, Farm Boy was left with “the crumbs,” York said at the time.
