Rideau Bakery products will be sold exclusively at Farm Boy stores across the province

Empire-owned Farm Boy has purchased Ottawa’s Rideau Bakery.

The family-owned bakery, known for its kosher breads, rolls and pastries, shut its doors Canada Day weekend after nearly 90 years in business. According to a CBC News story, owners Louis Kardish and David Kardish made the decision to close its two locations "for a combination of business and health reasons."

As part of the deal, Rideau Bakery products will be sold exclusively at Farm Boy stores in the nation's capital and across the province.

“We are working now on the plan to get the products into our stores as soon as possible, making sure that they use the same centuries-old secret recipes and techniques that are going to delight Farm Boy customers not just in Ottawa, but also in our stores across Ontario,” said Farm Boy co-CEO Jeff York in a press release.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
