Federated Co-operatives recently announced a $5 million donation to five children's hospital foundations in Western Canada.

In making the donation, Scott Banda, CEO of Federated Co-operatives (FCL), said in a release, "Our gift of $5 million is the largest FCL has ever given out. It is also the first time that the five foundations have received a single donation to be shared amongst them."

He added that in the past, the organization has differed to individual members of the Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) to handle donations within their communities. However, as an organization with a large footprint across the West, Banda said there was an the opportunity to make gifts on a scale that can’t be done by individual CRS members.

The gift will span over five years. The $5 million will be divided as follows: B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation receives $550,000; Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation in Calgary, $825,000; Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation in Edmonton, $825,000; Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan, $1.7 million; and The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, $1.1 million.
