Federated Co-op's drive to energy efficiency

As an organization that serves 212 retail co-ops, Federated Co-operatives Ltd. is all too conscious of how much energy it takes to run a supermarket. This is why the organization keeps energy efficiency top-of-mind when designing all of its stores.

Here Chris James, the company’s sustainability manager, talks about some of the energy-reducing tactics the company has embraced such as using better insulation and air sealing techniques, improving the efficiency of its refrigeration systems and implementing LED lighting systems.

As a result of these energy saving strategies, James says some stores reaping significant savings of $50,000 per year!
