Last week, Federated Co-operatives Ltd. launched a new campaign to make it easier for shoppers to identify and buy local food products in stores across Western Canada.
Federated is working with Localize, an Edmonton company that helps identify products local to each individual store and generate a local score for each item that then appears on a label on the shelf.

The initiative was announced at the North Central Co-op Food Store in Edmonton, Alta. Members of the Federated Co-op and Localize employees were present to make the announcement and answer any questions. Some of the owners of the province's hometown favourites were also present, including Sunny Boy Foods, Siwin Foods and Canadian Rangeland Bison and Elk. All three generated incredibly high local scores.
