Food Basics opens first urban-concept store in Ottawa
Food Basics has officially opened its first urban-format store in Ottawa.
The 22,000-sq.-ft. store, located at 340 Queen Street near Lyon Station, employs 90 people and is designed to reflect the diversity of the nation’s capital.
Shoppers will find the same low prices the Metro-owned discount banner is known for, along with private-label Irresistible and Selection products, fresh meat and produce, hot BBQ chickens, locally sourced items and a fast checkout experience.
“We’re proud to bring Ottawa its first urban-format Food Basics, offering even more ways for residents to save on quality products,” said John Manax, vice-president of operations, Food Basics in a press release announcing the Aug. 28 opening
“No matter where you live, people are always looking for ways to save,” he said. “Residents who may be first-time shoppers at Food Basics will get to know us as a discount grocer that is a reliable source for fresh, always in-stock, healthy food at great prices.”
This year marks Food Basics’ 30th anniversary. The new Ottawa store is the fifth to open in Ontario so far in 2025, with two more locations scheduled before year’s end.
