Food Basics supports Diwali celebrations in two Ontario communities

Who: Food Basics 

What: The grocer is supporting cornerstone Diwali events in Ottawa and Waterloo for the second year in a row. 

In Ottawa, Food Basics has organized a customized drone show on Oct. 12 as an alternative to fireworks amidst the province’s regional firework ban. The drone show will also include culture performances and activities. 

The grocer has also taken on title sponsorship of Waterloo’s Diwali celebration, after funding limitations threatened cancellation of the event. On Oct. 19, guests can experience a day of traditional snacks, cultural entertainment and a Bollywood dance party. 

“Food Basics recognizes the important role that community celebrations play in fostering connection and belonging,” said Hardeep Kharaud, senior vice president, Food Basics. “This Diwali, we are proud to help Ontarians shine a light in contributing to these meaningful traditions alive.”
