Four grocery stores opening in Toronto neighbourhood

Four new grocery stores are opening soon in Toronto's North York City Centre. 

H Mart, No Frills, T&T Supermarket and Food Basics are moving into the dense core of the Willowdale neighbourhood this fall.

Korean grocer H Mart will welcome shoppers this Thursday (Sept. 17) to its new location at 5803 Yonge Street, near Cummer Avenue.

“From fresh produce, seafood, meat & groceries to K-Food, bakery, K-Beauty, lifestyle and more—it’s all waiting for you at H Mart Cummer,” the company said in a social media post. 

A new No Frills will open that same day in the Hullmark Centre at 4771 Yonge Street. The fast-growing discount chain has taken over the space formerly occupied by Whole Foods. 

As previously announced, Asian grocery chain T&T Supermarket will open its largest store in Ontario on Oct. 8. 

The 66,000 square-foot store is located in the RioCan Empress at 5095 Yonge Street—formerly home to a Loblaws.

Finally, as previously reported, Food Basics will set up shop at 20 Church Avenue this fall at the site of a former Metro. An opening date is yet to be announced.

No Frills and T&T Supermarket are owned by Loblaw Companies Ltd., and Food Basics is owned by Metro Inc.

Ward 18 Councillor Lily Cheng shared the news in a social media post Monday.

“Many have been anticipating these openings,” Cheng said.
