Georgia Main Food Group president and COO stepping down
Gary Sorenson, president and COO of Georgia Main Food Group (GMFG), is stepping down.
After 14 years at the helm of the B.C. company, Sorenson is exiting to “focus time and attention on some personal life goals,” GMFG said.
Jeff Starnaman, VP of merchandising, has been promoted to COO.
Starnaman joined the company a year ago after a decade at London Drugs, where he held several key positions, including being a member of the executive team, and as well in human resources, distribution services and merchandising.
“On behalf of the entire Georgia Main team, we would like to extend our enormous gratitude to Gary for his leadership, his extraordinary contribution to our organization and to the grocery industry,” said Brandt C. Louie, chair, Georgia Main Food Group, in a press release. “The impact Gary has made on this organization, since taking the helm 14 years ago is considerable. Under his leadership we have navigated some challenging events and many significant successes. Gary also played a pivotal role in the Fresh St. Market brand since its inception, to its current 9 locations. Gary leaves a remarkable legacy of inspired leadership with us, and we know he will continue to be one of our biggest supporters.”
GMFG is a Louie family owned and operated company. It owns eight Fresh St. Market stores and 21 IGA stores in B.C., and recently opened its first Asian grocery store, Meiga Supermarket, in Port Moody.
