Giant Tiger continues to expand across the country, with plans for another store in Bedford, N.S. and one in Mississauga, Ont.

The Nova Scotia store will occupy 23,500 sq. ft and is slated to open Oct. 21.

In November, the company will open a 27,300-sq.-ft. store in Mississauga -- its second location in the city.

The first Giant Tiger opened in Ottawa's Byward Market in 1961 and today the company has more than 225 locations in eight provinces. All stores are locally owned or operated. Giant Tiger opened a previously announced store in Peterborough, Ont. earlier this month. Twelve more are in the works for 2017.

Giant Tiger is also moving ahead with plans to open 10 to 15 new stores every year for the next three to five years.

"We are thrilled to be bringing another Giant Tiger to Nova Scotia," said Thomas Haig, president and COO of Giant Tiger Stores, in a release. "We are confident that we have answered the needs of the community and that our unique shopping experience with friendly customer service will continue to make Giant Tiger the one-stop shop for everyone in this area."
