Hain Celestial launches new recycling programs

Canadians can now recycle flexible food packaging waste from Hain Celestial products through the company’s new TerraCycle programs
12/1/2017

To provide consumers with recycling options for its flexible food packaging, Hain Celestial Canada has teamed up with TerraCycle to launch five new programs.

Canadians can now recycle the company's flexible food packages (such as pouches and snack bags) through the following:

  • Earth's Best Recycling Program – baby food pouches

  • Europe's Best Recycling Program – frozen fruit and frozen vegetable plastic packaging

  • Terra, Sensible Portions and Garden of Eatin' Recycling Program – snack bags

  • Tilda Recycling Program – rice bags and pouches

  • Yves Veggie Cuisine Recycling Program – flexible plastic packaging and pouches

While plastic films and flexible plastic packaging are technically recyclable, they often end up in landfills because of the high cost of recycling the mixed plastics. Hain Celestial Canada's new recycling programs mean their brands’ packaging is now 100% recyclable. The company’s brands include Europe’s Best, Yves Veggie Cuisine, Celestial Seasonings, Live Clean, Earth's Best, Terra, Sensible Portions and Tilda.

“People who enjoy Hain Celestial Canada’s health food and snacking brands can now help the planet by recycling their generally non-recyclable product packaging,” said TerraCycle’s CEO and founder, Tom Szaky, in a release. “Several of these programs have been successful in both the United States and the United Kingdom and we are excited about the impact we can now make in Canada.”

Hain Celestial Canada’s free recycling programs are open to any individuals, schools, offices, or community organizations that are interested in participating. Those who want to participate just need to sign up on the correct TerraCycle program page and mail in their waste using a prepaid shipping label. Then once it’s collected, all the pouches, snack bags and packaging will be cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be remolded to make new recycled products.
