High-profile food exec joins CB Powell

Bill Dunne joins the packaged goods company's board

After a short hiatus, one of Canada’s high profile food industry executives is back as the newest board member for CB Powell Ltd.

Bill Dunne joins the family-owned Canadian consumer packaged goods company “to bring some value to the overall direction of the organization,” he said.

After a history of representing CB Powell in Atlantic and Western Canada through his former post at Acosta, Dunne says this new role makes sense because he is already intimate with CB’s corporate strategy.

“Bill has a ton of experience in the food industry generally and we feel he will add perspective and experienced counsel to us,” said CB Powell CEO Tim Powell.

“We’re also hoping to engage him in some strategic planning for the company and we think his background suits him perfectly for that," he added.

Dunne is the third outside director to join CB Powell’s board.

“We wanted to expand our number of directors outside the family but not with just anyone,” said Powell. “It had to be a really good fit and we’ve known Bill for many years. We feel he brings so much because of his profile.”

Less than a year after leaving his seven-year post as president at Acosta, Dunne is active on several boards (two non-profit in addition to CB Powell) and hopes to add another two for-profit ones to his roster within the year.

“I’ve taken an interest in serving on boards in the spirit of helping companies’ governance around their continued growth,” said Dunne.

With the recent launch of his own consulting business, his mandate is also to help small- and medium-sized Canadian companies with strategies to improve organizational design and “brand relevancy.”
