IGA has named the first cohort of Quebec companies selected as finalists for its Local Accelerator.

The project to support local agri-food companies developing innovative products was announced last year.

In addition to the 18 finalists, eight companies that submitted applications with products at an advanced stage of development can expect to see those on IGA store shelves in upcoming months.

Overall, the Empire banner received close to 200 applicants for the initiative’s first year.

“We were impressed by the enthusiastic response to the Local Accelerator. Meeting with all of those ambitious and creative companies prompted us to nearly double the size of our first cohort. Quebecers can be proud of the innovation taking place in our food industry! We eagerly await the moment when they can discover the products that emerge from this edition,” said Mireille Thibodeau, vice president, fresh merchandising, Sobeys/IGA.

IGA will provide material, financial and human resources to meet the specific needs of each company.
