Janes chicken strips added to food recall

A federal regulatory agency has expanded a recall of certain Janes brand chicken products that may contain salmonella.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says a recall of James brand chicken burgers, issued Oct. 26, has been updated to include additional products identified during a food safety investigation. The recall now covers Janes brand Pub Style Chicken Strips sold nationally in 800-gram packages with a best before date of May 11, 2019 (UPC 0 69299 12489 7).

In its initial recall warning the CFIA says salmonella investigations led by the Public Health Agency of Canada have linked frozen raw breaded chicken products to 25 illnesses in nine provinces, though it didn't say if the illnesses were linked to the products being recalled.

CFIA says the recalled items should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

Symptoms of salmonella poisoning typically include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea, but long-term complications can include severe arthritis.
