John Scott, the past president and CEO of the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers will receive the Spirit of the Independent Award at this year's upcoming Grocery Innovations Canada show.
The award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the growth of the entrepreneurial spirit and provided exceptional inspiration to Canada’s independent grocers.

Scott held the role of president and CEO of the CFIG for two decades, and retired from the post this year. At CFIG, he oversaw numerous programs and initiatives that foster community among independent grocers, equipping and enabling independent, franchised and specialty grocers for sustainable success.
In November 2009, Scott was the recipient of the Golden Pencil, considered the highest honour awarded by the retail food industry in Canada.

Past recipients of the Spirit award include Anthony Longo, President and CEO of Longo Brothers Fruit Markets Inc., and Jim Pattison of The Jim Pattison Group.
