Lactalis Canada is set to open a new distribution centre in Oshawa, Ont. late next year.

The company broke ground on the recently announced project last week (Oct. 5) with developer, builder and property manager Broccolini.

Located at 1680 Thornton Road North in the Northwood Business Park, the 379,000 square foot centre is scheduled to open in Q4 2024 and will create some 80 jobs in Oshawa and the surrounding region.

The zero-carbon ready building will become the largest distribution centre for Lactalis Group globally – from a capacity standpoint – and will be principally used for Lactalis Canada’s cheese and tablespreads category.

In addition to senior representatives from Broccolini and Lactalis Canada, the groundbreaking ceremony was attended by deputy mayor and city councillors from Oshawa and project partners CBRE Limited and GKC Architecture and Design.

“Our sincere thanks to the city and residents of Oshawa for embracing Lactalis Canada into your community. With over 30 operations across the country, and a significant presence in Ontario, we are honored to contribute to the vibrant tapestry of Oshawa,” Mark Taylor, president and CEO of Lactalis Canada, said in a statement. “Our decision to invest in this distribution centre in Oshawa underscores our commitment to this country and its people, the food industry and Canadian economy at large and most importantly, our contribution to the prosperity and vitality of the communities in which we operate.”
