The West’s premier grocery show takes place April 13-14 at the Vancouver Convention Centre

Grocery retailers are set to converge at the Vancouver Convention Centre Monday for the two-day grocery trade show, Grocery & Specialty Food West.

There are plenty of business workshops taking place.

With the home meal replacements trending upwards, Maple Leaf Foods’ Nola Martin will provide a comprehensive how-to for retailers looking to get in on the $2.4-billion market in Canada.

Martin says that the largest group of heavy users of HMR are 35-44. And 40% of millennials surveyed said they’re planning on buying more HMR. Attendees will find out what really resonates with HMR consumers: is it quick service, meal customization, or healthier fare?

Stewart Samuel of IGD Canada will offer up trends affecting retailers worldwide. His presentation will focus on how the supermarket  format is evolving to ensure it is relevant as discount stores, convenience stores and online all threaten to grab customer traffic and sales (from supermarkets).

The workshop on health and wellness from Nicole Fetterly of Choices Markets, Western Canada’s largest grocer of natural and organic foods, will focus on how retailers can add health to various departments. Instead of a traditional cheese and cracker demo, Fetterly will demonstrate customers want meal ideas, recipes and how-tos.
