Informative workshops on HMR, health and wellness, among new features at annual industry conference and tradeshow
9/24/2014

Defining what health means to different consumer types, from ethnic to boomers, is just one of the many key workshops planned for Grocery Innovations Canada(GIC) on September 29 and 30.

Taking place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, GIC will offer  hands on workshops to provide education to grocery sector leaders on key issues.

Ethnic consumers, boomers, and millennials have different views on what’s healthy. Carman Allison, vice-president of consumer insights at Nielsen Canada will shed some light on how health varies from consumer to consumer in one of the key workshop sessions on Tuesday morning.

Also on the topic of health, Nicole Fetterly, nutritional operations manager of Choices Markets in B.C. will showcase how having health experts at the point of sale boost dollars at the tills.

For grocers looking to increase their heat and eat food offerings, McCain Foods will be presenting a workshop on the facets of home meal replacement. Attendees will get a better idea on the HMR consumer today, along with key drivers; and how to ramp up growth of HMR in your store.

Along with health, there are workshops on CFIA regulations, financial best practices scheduled.

As well, with consumers demanding more local products, retailers can head to the Choose Ontario pavilion for inspiration from farm-fresh Ontario pork to goat milk products from the province. For those looking for greener choices, check out the Sustain Lane pavilion where they’ll get the latest on environmentally friendly options.

During the two day trade show, there’s the exciting Supermarket Chef Showdown featuring top chefs from Longo’s, Pusateri’s, Galleria Supermarket, and Summerhill Market. They’ll be challenged to create a HMR dish with a secret ingredient. With Recipe to Riches’ TV judge, Tony Chapman as host of the event, and attendees will get ideas for the ever growing home-meal replacement category.
