Lesley Stowe takes the Dare

With backing from new owner, maker of Raincoast Crisps looks to expand

Two years ago Oprah Winfrey called Raincoast Crisps one of her favourite things to eat. The remark gave an instant boost to the B.C. brand of biscuits.

Now the company behind Raincoast Crisps, Richmond B.C.’s Lesley Stowe Fine foods, is looking for even bigger and better things with the backing of a new owner.

Ontario’s Dare Foods quietly bought up Lesley Stowe in November.

Founder Lesley Stowe says Dare’s size and market penetration will help Raincoast Crisps spread into new markets.

“The change is our ability to grow the company on a more global scale and take it to other countries,” Stowe told the Vancouver Sun.

If nothing else, Stowe will be able to enjoy her snacks as she tries to drum up business in other countries. Last year, WestJet started serving Raincoast Crisps as inflight snacks.
