Levelling up loyalty: How RBC adds more grocery value for Canadians
With household spending under pressure, Canadians are looking to make every dollar count—especially at the grocery store. Loyalty programs have become an essential way for consumers to stretch their budgets, and their popularity continues to grow. In Givex Corp.’s 2024 Consumer Survey, 62% of respondents ranked grocery rewards as the most valuable type of program—up from 57% in 2023—outpacing all other categories in Canada.
Recognizing this shift in consumer priorities, RBC and Avion Rewards, Canada's largest proprietary rewards program, are stepping up with a loyalty solution designed to deliver real value in places that matter most—like everyday groceries. RBC has broadened its loyalty footprint through strategic partnerships with two of Canada’s top grocers: Metro Inc. and Pattison Food Group (PFG). Together, these partnerships offer new co-branded credit cards and linked loyalty programs that provide tangible benefits to millions of Canadians.
"We know that Canadians are looking for meaningful ways to stretch every dollar and we’re focused on delivering real value where it matters most, like at the grocery store, so our clients can feel more confident with their everyday spending," said Vinita Savani, Executive Vice President, Cards and Loyalty, at RBC.
Building a multi-province loyalty solution
Through these partnerships, RBC and Avion Rewards have created a vast grocery rewards ecosystem, delivering a rich experience for consumers. As a leader in the loyalty space, RBC makes it easy for shoppers to save money across a wide range of everyday purchases, including grocery, gas, dining, EV charging and more. Whether earning rewards through co-branded credit cards or linking any eligible RBC debit or credit card to participating strategic partner loyalty programs, RBC has convenient options that help Canadians maximize their savings.
More ways to earn, more opportunities to save
Through RBC’s expanding ecosystem of loyalty partnerships, grocery shoppers can earn points by using eligible RBC credit cards with partners like Moi and More Rewards. These partnerships allow customers to earn and redeem points for groceries and more — all while enjoying added value through their existing grocery loyalty programs.
In Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick, clients can link their eligible RBC cards to their Moi Rewards account to earn extra Moi points at close to 1,200 Metro, Food Basics, Super C, Jean Coutu, Brunet and Première Moisson locations. Eligible RBC cardholders who link by July 31, 2025, and make purchases by August 31, 2025, also receive a welcome bonus of 2,500 Moi points.
In Western Canada, RBC clients can link their eligible RBC credit or debit cards to their More Rewards account to earn double the More Rewards points at participating PFG grocery banners, including Save-On-Foods, PriceSmart Foods, Buy-Low Foods, Urban Fare, Quality Foods and Nesters Market. Linking is fast and easy — clients can connect their cards online in just a few simple steps. Once linked, they can scan their More Rewards card and pay with their linked RBC card to earn points and unlock bonus points on eligible purchases.
For those who want to maximize the number of points they earn per purchase, RBC’s co-branded credit cards provide fast and seamless rewards. Cards like the moi RBC Visa and More Rewards RBC Visa deliver accelerated points and generous welcome offers, all with no annual fees. These cards are designed to deliver maximum value at participating grocery partners—no extra steps required.
"These partnerships allow us to bring together the power of trusted grocery brands with RBC’s flexible rewards platform," added Savani. "It’s about giving Canadians seamless ways to earn and redeem points while shopping for the items that they purchase every day."
As demand for value continues to grow, RBC and its grocery partners are well-positioned to help even more Canadians save on everyday essentials—making every shopping trip a more valuable, rewarding experience.
