Metro Ontario program gets students seeing green
Metro Ontario recently announced that 13 schools in Toronto are the first group of recipients of this year's Green Apple School grants. Part of the 2nd annual Green Apple School Program, each school is awarded a $1,000 grant that goes toward initiatives aimed at creating a healthier environment.
From tree planting to composting systems, environmentally aware schools across Ontario are taking part in the program by planning green projects. Metro has distributed grants to more than 150 such schools across Ontario and Quebec so far.
Johanne Choiniére, SVP of Metro Ontario, says "Metro is proud to further our commitment to environmental stewardship in the community through the investment of up to $2 million in the second year of the Green Apple School Program.”
Applications from elementary or secondary schools in Ontario for Metro's Green Apple School Program will be accepted until March 31, 2011. Grants are awarded throughout the year.
