Mondelez CEO looks to create a 'culture of questioning'

Dirk Van de Put looks to provide employees with the tools to help
2/20/2019

In retail and marketing we often hear about cultures of innovation--collaborative environments where employees are encouraged and, perhaps more importantly, empowered to test, learn and fail. Conventional wisdom tells us this is the road to a happy workforce and a healthy bottom line.

Mondelez chief executive Dirk Van de Put believes this to be true, but would rather call it a "culture of questioning." He recently told Fortune he wanted the company's 100,000-plus employees to feel comfortable questioning the status quo, and to have enough autonomy to explore new ideas and "make interesting for themselves."

"I don't have the answers. I need everyone in the company to find the answers," he said. "What I can do is enable you, empower you...to give you the possibilities to help us fulfill our purpose as a company."
