A national food strategy with more local?

New Democrat MP wants Ottawa to be more involved in local food promotion
4/10/2013

The NDP’s agricultural critic wants the federal government to create a national food strategy that increases the amount of local food Canadians eat.

"If we're going to promote buy local, there has to be more structured thought about how to promote that. We need to develop another level of economy than just the market on Saturday,” Malcolm Allen, who is the Ontario MP for the riding of Welland, told the Brantford Expositor.

Allen added that any local food strategy devised by Ottawa must involve Canada’s big grocery chains.
