A new study in the journal Pediatrics reveals which fruits kids love most. Drumroll please: Apples win by a mile! The study found that 20 percent of a kid’s fruit consumption comes from apples, along with 10 percent from apple juice. Runner-up fruits include citrus juices, bananas, melons, berries, citrus fruit, fruit salads, grapes, peaches and nectarines.
Researchers surveyed 3, 129 kids aged two to 19 and found of all the fruit kids consume, over half (53 percent) is in the form of whole fruit—which are the healthiest—and 34 percent is in the form of 100-percent juice drinks.
The fact that kids are eating more whole fruits is good news, because a previous Pediatrics study showed that only 40 percent children between the ages of one to 18 meet recommendations for one to two cups of fruit per day.
