No need for chickens with new artificial eggs

With the plant-based egg, chickens aren't part of the production process

There's sure to be a new twist to the old question of which came first, the chicken or the egg, with the first artificial egg.

Called Beyond Eggs, the artificial egg uses a blend of plants including peas and beans, and already has the support of Paypal billionaire Peter Thiel and Bill Gates. The product is in Whole Foods stores in California.

There's already a substitute for cakes and one for mayonnaise, which is from a blend of plants including peas and beans.

Company founder Josh Tetrick said in a report that the mix of easy to grow plants have similar nutritional values and taste to real eggs.

Beyond Eggs could allow developing worlds to grow their own versions with added nutrients.
