La Tablée des Chefs presented its fifth-annual La Grande Tablée Toronto last week (Nov. 18), highlighting the power of cuisine as a driver for social change.
The annual gala, held at the Westin Harbour Castle, raised $245 million to support La Tablée des Chefs' mission, which is two-fold: to feed Canadians and reduce food insecurity through its innovative food recovery program, and to promote food literacy through its cooking classes at high schools and community youth centres.
This year's event showcased the food of local-area chefs along with culinary students from Centennial College, music from Market Street Strings and appearances from television chef Ricardo Larrivée, Toronto mayor Olivia Chow and was hosted by Tony Chapman.
Founded by chef Jean-François Archambault, and supported by partners such as Empire Company Limited, La Tablée des Chefs has distributed more than 21 million meals and has educated more than 78,000 young people since its inception in 2002.
