Loblaw Companies-owned discount banner Maxi marked its 200th store with the opening of its new Huntingdon, Que., location.
The new location, representing a multi-million dollar investment, is just over 22,000 sq. ft. and has created 60 new jobs in the area.
The store opening was attended by Maxi and Loblaw leaders, Martin Matte, the face of the banner’s advertising campaigns for almost a decade, as well as the mayor of the municipality, André Brunette, and municipal councillors.

Maxi and several of its vendor partners donated $50,000 to the Martin-Matte Foundation, a Québec-based charity that supported people with traumatic brain injuries or spinal cord injuries.
At the local level, store manager Julie Robidoux donated $2,500 to La Bouffe Additionnelle, an organization in the region that fights against food insecurity.
“This opening reflects our ongoing commitment to making quality products accessible at affordable prices to an ever-growing number of Quebecers and the many families who trust Maxi to provide their food. We’re particularly proud to have reached the milestone of 200 stores today, a clear demonstration of our commitment to bringing our high-quality, affordable offering to even more communities. We know that freshness and quality are important, and we are proud to be offering even more to the people we serve who are looking for exceptional value,” said Patrick Blanchette, vice president of Maxi.
Now with 200 stores, the Maxi banner has been present in Québec for more than 40 years.
