Longo’s has opened its first-ever store in Ontario’s Niagara region.

The Empire Company-owned grocer welcomed customers to its 44th store Wednesday (June 24), located at 968 Niagara Street in Welland.

Longo’s new location offers fresh produce, artisanal cheeses, locally sourced meats and seafood and a market-style bakery.

Guests will find a fresh Deli & Meat Counter, oven-baked pizza, gourmet sandwiches, hot prepared foods, salad bar, ready-to-go meals and sushi.

In addition to its fresh food offering, the store has a selection of packaged products, dairy, and frozen items.

There is also an in-store Starbucks, a selection of local beer and wine and Longo’s The Loft Cooking School.

Grand opening celebrations include visits from local dignitaries, cake and the Longo’s signature “apple bite.”

“Opening our first store in the Niagara Region is an exciting moment for Longo’s,” said Anthony Longo, executive chairman of Longo’s, in a press release. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to bring our freshness, service, value and Family Standards to Welland. We are looking forward to serving the community and building wonderful, long-lasting relationships.”

Before the opening, Longo’s contributed to local food banks and, in recognition of Earth Day, organized a 30-person cleanup along the Welland Canal.

Longo's will open its 45th store this fall. The supermarket will be located at 1700 King Rd. in King City, Ont.
