Quality Foods has an app for that
Quality Foods, the 11-store Vancouver Island-based chain, is making its innovative iPhone app available through Apple's App store.
Since the move was announced last week there has been a spike in the number of shoppers using the app, says Rob MacKay, the grocer’s marketing director.
Previously the app had been available only through the Quality Foods website. Now it can be downloaded from Apple iTunes for use on the iPhone, iPad and iTouch mobile devices.
With the app, consumers can check on special deals available at their grocery store, and select the ones they want to redeem by typing in their Q-Card (Quality Foods' loyalty card) number. The discounts are automatically applied at the checkout when they shop.
“It’s entirely seamless for the customer,” MacKay says.
A few examples of recent deals available through the app: half off a bacon-wrapped tenderloin and a buy-one-get-one-free offer on Glade air fresheners.
Shoppers can also use the app to check on Q-Card points they’ve accumulated and they can tune in between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. daily to find out the day’s “Appy Hour" special, which MacKay describes as an especially super deal on one product.
“So far we are finding that the number one use for the

Quality Foods plans to make the app available to users of non-Apple devices by adding it to the Blackberry App World store in the next few months. A web-based mobile version is currently available to Blackberry and Android users through the retailer’s website.
