The Salon International de l’alimentation (SIAL) boasted record numbers during its show earlier this month at the Palais des Congres de Montreal.
The 20,000 square foot tradeshow floor housed 767 exhibitors and brands from 43 different countries. In early February Xavier Poncin, executive director of the show, announced an additional 15,000 square feet of exhibition space had been made available to account for its anticipated growth.

Poncin’s prediction was realized, as the show grew 15% from the previous year.
“ an all-time record of 14,685 visiting professionals, which constitutes an increase of 5% over 2012,” said Poncin in a press release, adding there were a record number of innovations at the show.
About 81 different products were submitted for the SIAL Innovation conteset, with British-based Gu Desserts taking home the grand prize.
