Sainsburys launches an iPad shopping cart

9/1/2011

British retailer Sainsbury is testing out a trolley that has a built in iPad dock.

According to a report in The Telegraph, at the grocer’s outlet in Kensington, West London, the trolleys are outfitted with a tilting iPad holder and speakers, and bumpers have a sensor that tells customers they’re too close to another shopper with a warning beep.

A self-charging solar panel keeps the iPads powered.

Developed by broadcaster Sky, and developed by Setwo Designs, iPad users can watch live sport or news.

Sainsbury could roll out the trolleys across the U.K. if the trial proves successful in making shoppers visit stores.
